Searching how to live with differences without losing one’s own identity in a globalising world is a challenge for the European citizens. Respecting the reality of cultural differences in a broad but common framework should be at the very heart of further European integration towards active European citizenship.

The more Europe unites and enlarges, the more citizens are becoming aware of the different cultures, languages and religions they have to live with in one community.

This experience of human diversity, of facing “the other”, is leading individuals and peoples to better realize the very nature of their own identity and original culture.

At the same time, however, individuals will have to recognize that culture is not static. Culture is a  dynamic  process, characterised by openness, dialogue and interaction, which shapes our identities.

With a view to addressing this crucial issue,  for the future of democracy and Europe, the international association Europe of Cultures Forum has been created.

Its objectives are:

  • Developing cross-cultural and trans-national discussions at European level on issues of cultural identity and diversity within the framework of common European heritage, based on a living  community  of shared values.
  • Providing a permanent (inspiring) platform for exchanges, thus participating in public and political debates.
  • Fostering research and studies on all issues having an impact on cultures and peoples in Europe.
  • Creating a network of national, regional, local, linguistic and ethnic organisations concerned with cultural identity and diversity.
  • Educating citizens to understand and respect cultural differences. Informing the citizens of today and tomorrow  on all questions related to the expected changes which will result from long-lasting interaction of different cultures within a united European society.(within unifying European societies)
  • Influencing political decision-making with a view to fully taking respect for cultural diversity into account.
  • Contributing to intercultural dialogue within and outside Europe, hence stimulating mutual understanding, respect and tolerance.
